BUILDING PROGRESS UPDATE EDUCATION CENTER ADJUSTS SECURITY MEASURES (January, 2007) by Terry Fortunato
Security measures for the Education Center are being reviewed and revised to enhance the safety of our children and adult students The newly-formed Security Committee has been working with the Building Committee and Brenda Landau, Director of Education, to strengthen safety measures and to review bids for a security, alarm and fire warning system for the Religious School buildings.
Contractors have nearly completed work for the school’s opening, with only minor changes remaining. “We are eager to have all the essentials in place so that students and families can meet and study on our home campus,” says Andy Briefer, co-chair of the Building Committee.
The landscaping plan for the site is being revised to keep costs within the landscaping budget and to assure that plantings create long-term value for our property. Temporary lighting and fencing will be in place until a permanent plan is approved and implemented.
BUILDING PROGRESS UPDATE: Earth Movers Are Everywhere (September, 2006) by Terry Fortunato
Crews completed the construction and relocation of an 800-foot segment of the public water main along Alvernon. The main line is now ready for connection to the water lines on site at Or Chadash, pending water safety tests by the City of Tucson.
New sidewalks by the parking lot have been poured and others leading to the office and back to the school drop-off area are underway. The parking lot has been “rough graded” and awaits further smoothing and paving by the end of September.
Shade structures linking the education center portables are overhead and nearly complete. Remodeling has started on two of the older portables. The walls have been retextured with drywall, and new, larger windows have been installed to match the style of the new portables. All utilities, including water, sewer, electric, telephone and future fire alarm lines have been brought to the portables and await final connections after inspection.
A congregant requested that the site be cleaned for easier and safer entry to the office building. The northwest area now has an area to park cars, and a walkway has been cordoned off and lighted to make a safer, and more level walking space for entering the building.
As a cautionary note: During September and October, the grounds will be busy with large construction equipment moving earth, pouring sidewalks, and paving the lot, possibly creating short-term disruptions -- particularly on the day that the parking lot is paved. Contractors are aware that the building needs to remain operational.
