Sisterhood News
Congregation Or Chadash

by Kathylynn Saboda

Thanks to Sisterhood for their fabulous arrangements for our 100-Menorah Shabbat Service and Latke Extravaganza! The service was very well attended and the latkes were well dispatched. And, thank you to all the latke cookers, to those who brought the desserts that helped sweetened the evening, and to every one of the Sisters who helped to set up and clean up for this popular Or Chadash event.

More thanks to Sisterhood and to Brotherhood for all their help during our exciting Celebration for the Dedication of our Or Chadash Religious School. This long-awaited event was festive and entertaining, and everyone enjoyed the food and drinks supplied by Sisterhood and Brotherhood.

If you would like to participate in Sisterhood activities, be on the e-mailing list, or join us ($18 for the first year, and $36 after that), please contact our President, Kathylynn Saboda 297-5735, or email our Secretary, Betsy Sandlin, at begrace@mindspring.com

Check next month for details on upcoming events, including Sisterhood Shabbat on Friday, February 9th and Sisterhood's first ever Game Night on Sunday, February 11th

For all your gift needs, visit the Sisterhood Gift Shop. It is open Sundays, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 noon; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30–6:00 p.m.

NEW ONEG COMMITTEE

The Sisterhood has created an Oneg Committee to provide refreshments after Friday night services. Sisterhood members interested in being a member of the Oneg Committee may call Rochelle Roth, 298-3038.

Anyone may sponsor an Oneg to mark special occasions such as Shabbat, B’nei Mitzvah, birthday, anniversary, graduation, or yahrzeit. The cost for the Oneg is $75, with an extra charge for additional or special items. This relieves the congregation of the expense for that week, freeing up funds for use for other programs and services provided by the congregation. Those who choose to bring in their own refreshments instead of the standard Oneg will be charged an $18 set-up fee. For more information on sponsoring an Oneg, call the office at 512-8500.

(Last Month's Report)

by Kathylynn Saboda

December is a busy month for Sisterhood. On December 9th, we will be participating in the Dedication of the Education Center, staffing the Gift Shop and a Sisterhood-sponsored Coffee Cart. If you are interested in helping, please call Kathylynn, 297-5735.

Sisterhood is organizing the Latke Oneg after the 100 Menorah Service, December 15th. If you can donate latkes, sour cream or jelly donuts, or help with serving and staffing, call Kathylynn.

Recently, Sisterhood received a letter from Kathleen Bethel, principal of Los Ranchitos Elementary School, which Sisterhood has adopted for the last few years. Ms. Bethel wrote:
“You have no idea what your gifts these past few months have meant to our students. I don’t know who you make happier, the adults who get to hand out the supplies or the kids who receive them….You are the very best examples of a community in action, of acts of kindness and of giving without ever knowing where the gift lands.”

These kind words inspire all of us to continue in our work for our congregation and community. If you would like to take part, join us on Sunday, December 3rd. Coffee and conversation start at 9:30 a.m., and the business meeting begins at 9:45 a.m. We will discuss upcoming events and volunteering for the Gift Shop’s expanded hours for Chanukah shopping. Please bring school supplies if you can and a toy for the toy drive!
