Social Action News
SOCIAL ACTION by Andi Elkins
Congregation Or Chadash can be proud of its commitment to social action and generosity to those in need in the Tucson area. This Thanksgiving, our congregation provided entire meals, including ten kosher turkeys for Jewish families. Our congregants have consistently demonstrated their generosity, helping with Operation Deep Freeze, providing overnight assistance four nights in January and February. We need help with preparing and serving meals and making sack lunches for a group of homeless individuals. Warm socks, clothing, and blankets are appreciated.
We were very successful in our second annual Toy Drive, in coordination with the JCRC, so that impoverished children in our community had Chanukah and Christmas presents.
We continue to make lunches for working homeless men at Primavera
Foundation every month and I am working to set up a similar program at New Beginnings for Women and Children.
Many thanks to all of you who bring donations of food, school supplies and clothing items on Friday nights for our adopted elementary school, Los Ranchitos. We will soon participate in the Purim Diaper Drive, a JCRC program providing diapers for children and adults. During Passover, we will assist Jewish families with Seder food boxes.
The Social Action Committee has a critical need for volunteers for all of these projects so please contact Andi Elkins, 405-4565 or andielkins1@cox.net.

JUNIOR SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE NEWS
by Harry Fuchs
Thank you to everyone who donated money to buy kosher turkeys and stuffing for Thanksgiving. Jewish Family and Children’s Services was appreciative. Thank you to all who donated to the Interfaith Community
Services food drive and to all who donated to the Chanukah Toy Drive sponsored by Jewish Community Relations Council.
Through this project, I have been learning about generosity and how generous our congregation has been to those in need.
Thank you so much
for contributing to these projects. The next event will be the Purim diaper drive. Look for the flyers!

TIHAN HAS AN UNPRECEDENTED NEED FOR CARETEAM MEMBERS
This successful program by the Tucson Interfaith HIV/Aids Network provides compassionate, non-medical, in-home help to a CarePartner living with HIV or AIDS. Each team is assigned to work with a person living with HIV. Help may include visits, errands, shopping, light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation and companionship for medical appointments, and respite for primary caregivers. We also serve CarePartners in hospital and hospice settings.
When our CarePartners have needs beyond our abilities, we make referrals to appropriate agencies. In addition to supporting their CarePartner, members of each CareTeam meet regularly to support one another emotionally and spiritually.
Care Team Members typically volunteer 2–4 hours each week. Please sign up for one of the upcoming orientations and then participate in the all day training.

SANDWICH MAKING FOR
THE WORKING HOMELESS
Congregation Or Chadash is assisting The Primavera Foundation in their Primavera Works program—the extended men's homeless shelter where the 25 men work in the community Monday through Friday.
We provide lunches for two days each month and need volunteers to shop, pack and deliver 50 lunches. Sack lunch packing is 11:00 a.m., on the 2nd Sunday of every month at the office.
