ICS (Interfaith
Community Services) NEWS (Formerly NWIC - Northwest Interfaith Center) Update News (October, 2006) CHANGE FOR THE BETTER
At last, a solution to all those holes in your pockets and purses! Or Chadash is offering you a safe and welcome place to put your loose change—in our ICS “Change for the Better” bank.
Congregation Or Chadash has been a member of Interfaith Community Services (ICS) since 2001, helping Tucson’s growing population of elderly, disabled and homebound individuals and families in financial crisis maintain independent and quality lifestyles. Every year our congregation pledges financial support for ICS, and our volunteers assist by driving neighbors to medical appointments and food shopping, by helping in the ICS Food Bank, and by donating to this vital Tucson community service organization.
Bring your loose change to our office. We’ll collect your bothersome and weighty coins, and when the ‘bank’ is full, we’ll count ’em up and donate what we’ve collected to help Or Chadash help ICS make a change for the better.
Congregation Or Chadash has been a member of the Board of Interfaith Community Services (ICS) since 2001. Each year we make a donation and our volunteers serve the needs of neighbors in our citywide community. If you are able to help, please consider:
· Helping in the Food Bank · Donations of canned fruit, jelly, tuna, pasta, pasta sauce, macaroni and cheese, canned meat, jello, personal hygiene items, infant formula, and size 3 and 4 diapers · Office volunteers · Drivers for Mobile Meals and Caregiving Services Transportation (training provided)
Please contact, Mina Jeffery, Volunteer Coordinator, at 297-6049 to participate in this worthwhile endeavor.
Interfaith Community Services (ICS) recognized Betsy Sandlin of Congregation Or Chadash’s with the prestigious Barbara Anderson Award for 2006 for her outstanding service to ICS, demonstrating an outstanding level of commitment as a member of the Program Committee, a coordinator of Food Bank collections, and a driver in Caregiving Services.
As a Board Representative from Congregation Or Chadash since 2001, Betsy lives her faith everyday as she helps seniors, disabled individuals, and people in financial crisis. Betsy was given a special certificate and her name has been added to the ICS Barbara Anderson Recognition plaque. Congratulations Betsy!
Betsy Sandlin and Bonnie Kampa, ICS Executive Director
Volunteer Opportunities
Congregation Or Chadash has now been joined by the second synagogue, Temple Emanu-El, among 36 member religious institutions of the Interfaith Community Services (ICS). ICS staffs food pantries and provides volunteer assistance throughout Tucson. You can join hundreds of ICS volunteers making a positive difference in the lives of thousands of neighbors by supporting them with your time and your donations.
We have good news to share! Today, (Tuesday April 18th), ICS won the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona's Innovation Award for a Small Organization, for our Health Advocacy program--an award of $5,000 to our agency. The Health Advocacy Program at ICS began three years ago with support from St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Maricela Reynaert, our Health Coordinator on staff, and over 25 volunteers, visit our clients in their homes, interviewing and educating them about healthcare and community resources.
We offer many thanks to St. Andrew's, our Executive Council and Board of Directors, and many, many volunteers who make this innovative and now award winning program possible.
